Question of the Week: What Can I Do When Life Goes Nuts?

This is such a fun question.  Thank you so much for asking this!  I’m totally serious by the way. Between my younger cousin passing away AND my friend suffering a stroke (at a young age) in January, this question has really helped me cope.  My life is usually hectic. This past month has been INSANE. So here we go.

There is no one thing a person can do when life goes nuts.  It would be amazing if such a strategy existed.  But then again, that might make life too easy on us humans.  We tend to learn (if we do) by trial and error.  In my blogs I usually write exercises but I’m going to shake things up a little this time.  What you will see below is my list of things that I do when life goes nuts. Allow me to introduce you to Caren’s 29 Things To Do When Life Gets Serious:

  1. Take photos of what’s ‘nuts’ in your life.  Keep them.  Trust me…you will laugh later.
  2. Give all the dogs or cats (both?) at your local animal control or shelter the attention they deserve.
  3. Eat only red foods for a day. Did I hear someone say ‘red velvet cupcake’?
  4. Plug in your headphones and sing out – in public.
  5. Make little notes of why certain people are important in your life. Then leave these notes in places said people will definitely find.
  6. Program all the channels in your car radio to the same station and have your passenger change channels.
  7. Find out whether brunettes, blondes or red heads have more fun.  May I suggest a wig?
  8. Choose a good book and get lost in it.  Writing as a graduate student…this is completely insane.
  9. Start a journal of tips for the future generations of your family.
  10. Watch a reality tv show.  Realize how good your life actually is.
  11. Ever heard of Method Acting?  Choose your favorite character and act like them…within reason of course.
  12. Shut of your phone, tablet, tv, computer (you get the picture) for a couple of hours. Double dare…
  13. Eat dessert  for dinner…and for dessert.
  14. Answer the phone “Xena Warrior Princess” or any other character from your favorite childhood show.
  15. Photoshop yourself doing things you’ve secretly wanted to.  Now go do them!
  16. Showcase your guilty pleasure.
  17. Learn how to fix your car.  Start with the basics. Yes, I’ve done this.
  18. Write a book. Yes, I’ve done this too.
  19. Run a hot bath, light some candles, pour a glass of wine, find your favorite cd (your ipod will suffice)  and relax.  Unless you smell smoke, you’re glued to that tub.
  20. Actually fix what needs fixing in your house.
  21. Rearrange rooms in your house.
  22. Go for a drive.  Leave your GPS at home.  Get lost…on purpose. Use paper maps to find your way back.
  23. Stand in the rain and let it drench you. It will help wash away any fears.
  24. Have a conversation with your friend in pig latin.
  25. Meditate, even for a couple of minutes, or do yoga. Pilates maybe?
  26. Bellydance!  This is harder than it seems.  Are you up for the challenge?
  27. Read Shakespeare’s sonnets.  Understand and feel them.
  28. Get caught with your hand in the cookie jar and be proud of it.
  29. Put on your best outfit and go out with friends.  Make sure they do the same.

Life can get insane. Sometimes we feel like we can’t do anything about anything.  That feeling is hard to deal with.  So go do something! Silly and completely random things can bring a smile to your face and others.  You’ll be surprised how much it can brighten your day.

Go forth and be nuts!

Warmly,

~Caren

Question of the Week: Past lives: what are they? Why do we need to know about them?

Lovely question, and perfectly suited for the new year! On that note, I hope you all have an amazing new year. Happy 2013!

It might seem obvious, past lives are lives we’ve already lived.  Hmmm ‘past lives’, this term sounds kind of complicated doesn’t it? This term  is by no means easy to define, yet, one does not have to fear it.  There are many ways to look at past lives and so much information about it.  This post will not be able to cover everything, so…l’ll give you my  perspective on the subject.

You see, the afterlife (I like to say “before life”) is very vast. It is not simply a black void where nothing happens. A person’s soul is constantly learning, constantly prepping, constantly yearning for more. This is a place where they can gather together and help each other.

We all travel in soul groups. Think of this like a theatrical production. All the souls in this group are actors, and they position themselves in life in a particular way that helps a person learn the lessons they need to. This play is completely planned out. However, conveniently, we cannot remember them once we are born. Our soul groups are part of us, but that doesn’t mean we are in contact with every soul in each life. Sometimes there are lessons we need to learn that no one in our soul group should teach. So help is recruited from another soul group we are in affinity with. So when we do run into someone from our own soul group, we can feel an instant connection; this is the soulmate connection. This means that soulmate connections can vary. A soulmate could be a best friend, your mother, father, a sibling, a teacher, even an enemy. Sometimes a soulmate can be a lover, but this is not as common as one would think.

So if past lives are important, why do we forget them? If we indeed lived before why don’t we remember those lives? Answer this honestly… Do you really want to remember all your lives when living another? While I remember quite a few of my past lives, I know I don’t. My life is plenty for me to handle. The human body is not equipped to deal with all of your lives at once.

Don’t think of past lives in a chronological fashion. That is not how they work. I’m not saying that today you are living in 2013 and your next life will be in 542 BC; one life is not more important than another. This is why one simply cannot move through them in a chronological fashion. Everything learned is important and must be seen as a whole. You are not the same person who lived those lives, and your soul has changed. You will never be exactly the same person again.

Do you need to learn about past lives? Well, no. Could you survive without knowing about them? Absolutely! Are past lives useful to us in our current one? Oh yeah!!! (Sorry, I just love the subject :-) ) This process is very healing, and in my opinion, fun.

Most of my clients ask me about past lives. The majority of these people are looking to understand something in this life. Others have flashes or memories of nothing they can remember from this life. Other people are petrified of certain things. Sometimes people feel an immensely strong connection to someone and they don’t know why. They might barely know the person. Past lives are a part of us, and can be responsible for some of the things we feel, need, loathe, actions we take and this list can go on and on.

By gaining a past life perspective, people can connect to what helped shape them in this life. I found that a lot of people react positively and, for example, are no longer petrified of water or understand why they might not trust someone they love deeply. By looking back in time, we can understand the present.

One of the most important things I can tell you about past lives is to keep an open mind. Any information that can help you overcome and live the happiness and peace you were meant to in your current life is valuable. If you find you cannot accept it completely, this is okay… 100% okay. However, if you find yourself wondering about past lives and how they might be relevant to this one, I suggest you investigate that further. Who knows, you might have just stumbled upon a trigger moment in your life. In other words, if you feel (yes, there is that gut feeling again) drawn to the subject, do it.

Warmly,

~Caren

Question of the Week: How can I find forgiveness?

Wow, well this is an amazing question, at a very suitable time.

I haven’t written in a couple of weeks because I simply couldn’t find the correct words to use after the Sandy Hook tragedy.  My heart knew them; my brain kinda did; my hands on the other hand certainly did not.  So, shall we?

Forgiveness is not like forgetting.  This is not something one can sweep under the rug and still hope to achieve.  It is work, constant work.  I know you’re probably groaning a little at hearing this. It sounds time consuming doesn’t it? Granted, it can be but it doesn’t HAVE to be.  This part is entirely up to you.  Here are some of my guidelines to forgiveness, both for yourself and others. Remember, these are only some suggestions. Please feel free to add your own :)   Oh, I wrote them in no particular order.  All are equally important.

First of all, you have to realize that when you choose to engage with forgiveness, you’re making an active choice. It’s a HEALTHY choice; treat it as such.  If we hold on to pent up anger, we’re not accomplishing much.  Well, it could be an interesting show when we explode, but none of us really want to provide such entertainment…knowingly.  We always know when that’s about to happen right? :P Our bodies, spirits, souls are always interconnected, and any choices we make for one, will affect the others.  By holding on to anger (feel free to substitute any unpleasant emotion), our energetic self isn’t healthy.  Our physical body relies largely on our emotional well-being.  In other words, if we neglect our emotional well-being, our physical body is more prone to illness.

Humans are exactly that…human beings.  We are not perfect.  No one can ever be 100% perfect.  We will, and do make mistakes.  Recognize this.  But that’s the catch.  Mistakes are in the past. The past is a place we yearn for with an intense longing because we can never go back to that time.  Our view of the past will always be from the present.  Just like our view of the future will always be from the present. As such, those projections will always be of what we think the past should’ve been.  We need to make sure we are fully present in our present.  Sure, things might’ve worked out differently if I chose a different option than the one I did.  However, if I hadn’t made a mistake, I wouldn’t have learned from it.  I wouldn’t be me.  Besides, Spirit has a habit of making sure we learn lessons, and with my luck, I would’ve learned it in a harsher way if I disregarded it the first time.  I’m stronger today than I ever thought I could be! Thanks Spirit!! See, I do learn :P  Find it in your heart to forgive, and be forgiven, and you’ll grow. (hmmm that sounds like a fortune cookie. Well you guys know what I mean haha).

Give yourself time to heal and feel.  This is absolutely essential.  When you allow yourself to truly feel, a deep healing has space to take place.  By feeling your grief and pain, you’re acknowledging it and working through it.  Don’t rush yourself because this is a process that cannot be rushed.  It’s like the Alanis Morrisette song “ Out is Through“.  On the flip-side, if someone needs some time and space away from you, please allow them this.  It’s something they must work through.

If a particular person or situation enters your mind often, don’t send anger messages to Spirit. Instead send love.  As cliche as it might sound, Love can and does heal everything.

Don’t let your brain try to entice you with the seductiveness of revenge tactics.  It’s a no win situation.  They do not work. Let me correct that.  Such tactics work, but have the tendency to work too well.  The person will probably get the picture, however, it’s quite likely everyone you know will too. Save yourself some heartbreak and pain.  Step back. Think about that first.  What is rational? What isn’t? How will you feel about it tomorrow? Be calm.

If you’re not ready to forgive, that is fine.  However, live your life to the fullest.  Now, I know this is difficult, but make sure you live with positivity.   By doing this, you will not send out negative energy to Spirit.  Like attracts like remember?  Please see my post on the Law of Attraction for a more in depth explanation of this.

Remember there is no expiration date for forgiveness.  There is no time limit.  So don’t feel rushed.  We are all different people.  So why should we expect to heal and be forgiven in the exact same way as another?

I suggest keeping a journal.  Pour all your emotions into this journal.  Write EVERYTHING down. This is an extremely relieving and releasing process to go through, and guess what?  When you’ve gone through this process, you can look back through the journey and see a record of how far you’ve actually come!

Find something to be grateful for daily, even if it is as simple as having a working laundry machine, or the knowledge that the sun will rise on a whole new day tomorrow.

Remember:

It is 100% acceptable (and normal) to cry, to feel, to love, to be brutally honest with oneself and others, to smile, to laugh, and to grieve.

Warmly,

~Caren

Question of the Week: Being a more physical type of person, it’s hard for me to manifest solutions in my mind. I really want to manifest prosperity in my life. Is there anything more physical I can do to promote this?

Great question! With the new year just around the corner it is particularly fitting.  Humans are very physical beings.  It is hard for us to manifest things only with our minds.  Much of this is a result of the society we grew up in.  We are taught at a young age that minds aren’t supposed to create things.  As a result, this then becomes a No No.  And unless we practice manifesting, it doesn’t always come easy to us.  A persons’ brain is a muscle, and needs to be exercised. With that said, it can be very useful to have something tangible to aid in any manifesting process.  In this following exercise  you will literally plant a seed for prosperity (or anything else you wish to manifest).

For this exercise you will need a piece of paper, a pen and a seed or sapling, and any tools needed to plant it.  I suggest once you’ve settled on what type of tree/seed you want to plant, you verify how to correctly plant it.

What seed of an idea do you want to plant?  This can be anything from a skill or personal trait to protection or financial security. Be as specific as you can.  If you’re not sure, take some much deserved personal time, and listen to yourself.  Don’t try to reason with or outwit yourself.  It won’t work.  You’re mind will just get cluttered.  Instead, simply quiet your thoughts (yes, I know this is hard…trust me…my brain hates to shut up), and listen.  Once you’ve found out what you would like to manifest, write it down on the piece of paper.

You’ll notice I’ve provided a list of trees, choose one based on it’s energetic correspondence to your manifesting goal. This list of trees is mainly based on North America, so feel free to use others including herbs and plants.  Just make sure you do your homework first to match their energetic frequency to your goal.

Once you’ve picked your tree, pick it up and infuse it with your manifesting intentions.  If you’re using a pot, put the paper (with your written goal on it in the bottom of the pot.   If you’re planting it outside, put your piece of paper in the bottom of the hole you’ve dug.  Secondly, cover the paper with a little soil, and thirdly, please plant your little tree. As your tree grows, visit it frequently, nourish it and give it strength and infuse it with your intentions..  Feel free to name it, if you feel moved to do so.  As your little tree grows, so will your goal.

Here are some of the trees you can use (in alphabetical order…I guess grad school rubbed off on me :P ) :

Alder – Alder is associated with rebirth as well as resurrection. Alder trees’ petals can reflect the spiral pattern of creation. Alder is particularly strong for situations dealing with birth, death or rebirth.

Apple – The Apple tree has been considered one of the most sacred trees for centuries. Apple can be a symbol for the energy of eternal youth and happiness in the afterlife. In fact, in Ireland, cutting down an Apple tree was considered so unlucky that the people would need to conduct a human sacrifice as retribution for such a wrong.

Ash – The Ash tree is an ancient tree oftentimes associated with the Norse as well as Poseidon, (otherwise known as God of the Sea) Ash promotes prophecy.

Birch – As the Birch tree is the first tree to produce new leaves each year. Therefore  it is a symbol of fertility and new beginnings. Birch helps to accomplish goals, bans negativity and brings luck in new endeavors.

Elder – The Elder tree is associated with magick and manifestation. Think of this tree as ancient knowledge.  Elder can also help in warding of negative entities.  However be careful, if used improperly, this trees’ ancient quality can attract negative entities, especially if burned.

Hawthorne – The tree is purification and chastity. Hawthorne is used to attract fairies and other lighter energies. Do not cut this tree down.

Hazel – Hazel is pure wisdom, in all aspects of life.

Holly – Holly is protectful and lucky. Holly can also be used for divination, as it is said that the number of berries can indicate the severity of the coming winter.

Maple – Maple attracts love, money, luck, and is considered a ‘sweet’ tree. It adds sweetness to what you attract.

Oak –  Oak is the tree of endurance and triumph.  This tree is soooo solid, strong and grounding.  Oak is stability.

Rowan – Rowan represents inspiration and vitality. Rowan is a tree of fire and flame energy.  This tree can also increase psychic ability.

Willow – This tree has a similar energy to that of the Moon and is protective. Willow provides protection from nightmares, harm, and betrayal.

Happy Manifesting!

Warmly,

~Caren

Question of the Week: I walked into a shop that was full of gemstones and crystals, and felt a shift in energy. Could you explain these stones?

But of course! It’s possible to feel all sorts of energetic changes when you’re around gemstones.  Sometimes these changes are uplifting, while others, not so much.  But that’s not something negative, you just have to be careful not to overcharge your body with a specific frequency. Many people have experienced this in such shops. I know I have! Oh, I also tend to walk out of those stores with a nice collection of natural stones.  What? They’re addicting! :P

Crystals and gemstones have many different types of healing frequencies, and vibrations.  They’ve been used to complement energetic fields for centuries, and probably thousands of years.  Actually, what one can do with stones is limitless.  I frequently work with them in my healing practice and my clients are astounded by the results.  I tend to work with natural non-shiny stones – the energy flows easier, smoother, and stronger.

As usual, I will write in this post some of my suggestions, but in a slightly different way.  In the list below, I will provide some of the common interpretations for the stones first.  Then you will see the following words “I’ve found it also:” – this knowledge was gained from years of various research and practical application, and may or may not be found in well-known sources. The following list of gemstones is by no means complete.  You can find very good books on this subject in any library or bookstore.

DISCLAIMER: These gemstones are very powerful.  As stated above, you can overdose on their frequency, and at times, can cause serious DAMAGE if used improperly.  If you have ANY questions (whether you’re new to stone therapy or advanced), PLEASE ask! I’d be happy to help. While all stones are to be used with caution, I emphasis which ones you need to be extra careful with. I tried not to include many of these stones in this basic beginners’ list.

Meet some of the main gemstones:

AMETHYST: Can reduces negative energies and improves psychic abilities. I’ve found it also: Removes static. Good for calming. Good for insomnia – place under your pillow. Can help stop bleeding and bruising if treatment is given within 10 minutes. Women – put this on your stomach to help with menstrual cramps.

BLOODSTONE: An intense healing – purification. Can revive love and general relationships. I’ve found it also: Good for blood – anemic person should hold it the appropriate hand (right for women, left for men).

CITRINE: Material gain, business success/prosperity.

HEMATITE: Calming. can aid in sleeping.  I’ve found it also: effectively heals upper abdomen, back, gall bladder and pancreas.

JADE: Humility /compassion. I’ve found that it also: attracts money. Good general tonic. Wear it and you will feel good in 10 minutes. Can liven your mind.

JASPER: Chronic health issues or when your energy feels low. I‘ve found that it also is good for healing anorexia.

LAPIS LAZULI: Can reduce anxiety, restlessness. Promotes intuition.  I’ve found that it also: Relives tension in muscles and helps with bruising. Good for leg cramps.  Be carefulThis stone has the delayed effect – don’t overdose!

MALACHITE: Can reduces depression and anger.  I’ve found that it also: Extremely good for liver problems. Good for blood and water based symptoms/organs. Can counteract a Lapis Lazuli overdose. Be careful with this stone – any, even the most slight, overdose can make you nauseous quickly!

MOONSTONE: Can maintain/enhance female health. Promotes intuition.  I’ve found that it also: Be careful-can enhance sleepwalking!

QUARTZ: A general multi-purpose healing stone, as it can draw and send energy. An amplifier for psychic energy and aids in visualization.  I’ve found it also: Good for stomach.

ROSE QUARTZ: Think all nice words with this stoneEmotional harmony, love, sexuality, romance, beauty, kindness. I‘ve found it is also: Excellent for skin rashes, sores, swelling, bruising.

TIGER-EYEOptimism, and creativity.  I’ve found is it also: A fast blood-clotter if used correctly.

This is just a small introduction to some gemstones.  As you research them, a whole new world will open up to you.  For example, you might start combining them. For example, use Lapis Lazuli and Amethyst together to calm nerves, nervous tension, and muscular twitches as well as recharging the body.

In the beginning, I recommend you decide what frequency you and your body need.  Then carry that stone with you. Make sure to pay attention to your body.  It will know when it has received as much as it needs.  Listen to it :)

Enjoy!

Warmly,

~Caren

Question of the Week: How Does the Law of Attraction Work?

Great question for a Friday evening!

It seems the Law of Attraction has received international recognition only fairly recently via books or movies like The Secret or motivational speakers.  However, the Law of Attraction is much more ancient and has been in use for centuries, if not thousands of years.

A lot of people relate the Law of Attraction to romantic attraction.  It is so much more than that.  This is a universal law that one can utilize in ANY aspect of their life.  Think of it in terms of the Law of Gravity.  The Law of Attraction is also based on understanding energy; how it moves, shifts and responds under certain conditions.   We are all made up of energy and deal with various energies day in and day out.  The Law of Attraction is subject to this.

Okay, in other words, this means that certain components of our energy really like themselves, and seek to recognize themselves in any of the surrounding energy.  When they do locate such energy, they want to be surrounded by it all the time – LIKE ATTRACTS LIKE.

Take for example, first graders on their first day of school (feel free to substitute any age group).  As they are on the bus for the first time, there is one group of them that can’t wait to get to school. This group talks about pencils and very cool erasers, shows of their brand new and shiny backpacks and are in general happy and excited.  On the other side of this situation, there are those kids that like to pick on society’s newest recruits, and take their brand new shiny backpacks from them.  This second group of kids has a completely different kind of energy.  These energies don’t mesh and the groups remain separate, because they feel comfortable with the energy in their own group. Very rarely do (or even can) these groups play together nicely.  They simply aren’t attracted to each other enough to do so.  This example shows the like indeed attracts like – for better or for worse.  Once this essential principle is understood, it is possible to recognize the energy of your desire and create that same energy in yourself.  Like attracts like remember? Yes, this might seem to be a situation of ‘easier said than done’, but never fear, step by step instructions will follow shortly. There are just some things that have to be explored first. :P

When working with the Law of Attraction, one must remember that everything expands! Again, this can be seen in the above example – each group could recruit more individuals.  By doing so, the size grows and they expand.  One can also see how one group could become more powerful than the other.  This is why it is so important to clarify your intentions as much as possible.  This principle works in every situation – whether you’re focusing on what you do want, or what you don’t want!  Determine what you want, and focus your energy towards that particular intention. Mind your thoughts and intentions. Yep, this is a similar situation to ‘Be careful what you wish for’. Remember, don’t try to accomplish anything that interferes with a persons’ free will.  Everything expands and attracts.  If you try to manipulate someone, you attract that to yourself. Besides do you want someone to do that to you?  Didn’t think so.

So how exactly is this done you ask?

Here are the main how-to tools regarding the Law of Attraction.  Think of them as a roadmap, and prepare yourself to experience various speeds on your trip.

  1. ASK clearly for what you want.  Basically, the more you know about what you want, the easier it is for the universe to understand and create it  (But please don’t go stalking anything or anyone…the Law of Attraction is all about you. And that’s great!).  This will probably require some soul searching to get the detail needed. What do you really want?
  2. BELIEVE that it can and will be yours. You have to believe that you deserve and are capable of handling what you’re asking for.  The what-if game can come in handy here if you need a little guidance. What would I do with it?  What if it could be mine? What would it feel like? How would it change my life and the lives around me for the better? I know that last one isn’t exactly a what-if question, but it is extremely important to know the answer to it.  Infuse all these answers into your being and truly believe them.
  3. VISUALIZE yourself complete.  By doing so, you’re projecting your success onto your sub and conscious mind. Certain scientific evidence points to the brain only remembering what it sees.  Put as much detail into it as much as you would like. How does it feel to know that your goal is complete? Get used to that feeling. :)
  4. ACTin a manner that supports your intention.  Any choices you make should be in line with your goal.  If you notice something in your life which needs to be changed to reach your goal, then it is advisable for you to change it.
  5. ENJOY!!!! But please remember to say thank you to the universe (yes, you did just read that), and sit back and enjoy.  Your intention won’t happen overnight and could take a while.  But once your intention is accomplished, you’ll feel more empowered. You’ve now accomplished your goals through your own direct intervention.  Good luck!
Warmly,
~Caren

Question of the Week: Does Telekinesis Really Exist? If so, can I and how do I practice it?

Cool question!!

The human brain is an amazing tool.  There is a common myth which states that humans only use 10% of their brain. Now as a scientist, I know this isn’t exactly correct.  Humans do indeed utilize most parts of their brains BUT many functions and the capacity of these parts are not fully known.  Nor are reactions fully understood.  Sometimes new and different reactions happen in well-known parts of the brain that leave science stumped.  Now, before the scientist in me decides to upload a powerpoint on this subject (PhD studies will do that to a person), I better turn to the question asked.  Let’s just say the brain is a unique, complex puzzle and so many more pieces are needed.  Maybe an iceberg of which we barely even see the tip is a better analogy? Probably not. Okay answer time.

Psychokinesis or more commonly, Telekinesis simply means mind over matter and the ability to move objects utilizing this skill.  In short, the answer to your first question is yes, this ability most definitely does exist.  The answer to your second question is again yes, however this is not a particularly easy skill to master.  It requires patience, time and tons and tons and tons of practice.  This is not simply a matter of wishing for something on the physical level. One has to be able to both control their unconscious mind AND work with the surrounding energy.  Science doesn’t have an explanation for how psychokinesis works, but it is aware of this skill.  Not many people can demonstrate psychokinesis, but I believe anyone can do it.  It just comes more naturally for some.  I know to some this might sound far-fetched, and that is perfectly fine. However, if you feel like trying your hand at this, please do.

What you will need:

  • A large piece of dark color paper.
  • A light powdery substance (I’m thinking flour here).
  • A light color marker.
  • A completely flat workspace.
  • A controlled room in which there is no air movement.
  1. Take your powder, pour it onto the paper and make it into a little hill.
  2. Draw a perimeter around your little hill with the marker.
  3. Sit back, take some deep breaths and clear your mind.
  4. Get to know your hill.  Don’t touch it, but still sense what it feels like.  What do you know about it? What does it smell like (don’t stick your nose in it, stay sitting back)? Is it similar to anything in the natural world that you’ve being moved? How can it be moved?  Sense the energy surrounding it.
  5. Now make note of your breathing and focus on the powder.  Imagine you’re made up of the same powder and what it would be like.  Your consciousness is now slowing down to the same vibration of the powder.  Now imagine what it feels like to move as this powder.
  6. Now hold that feeling of becoming powder and when it peaks, place your hands on the sides of the paper slightly outside of the perimeter. Imagine an energetic link between you and the powder as you ground yourself (if you need advice on how to do this, you can find it in some of my older blog posts).  Remember, you’re made of energy, the powder is made of energy, in between you there is energy and what surrounds you is energy.  Be willing to work with it, but remember you don’t ‘own’ it.
  7. Intently stare at the powder and imagine that you’re in the hill.  You’re running through it and over the perimeter, you’re pushing and pulling it, you’re throwing it, or anything you can come up with to move it.
  8. While holding this momentum, repeat this exercise for about 5 minutes. If you are successful, the mental energy you generate will move the powder across the perimeter.

As you practice more and more, feel free to add lengthen the 5 minutes to however much you can handle.  Don’t wear yourself out!  Once you are more advanced, you can add to it by utilizing  energy in your hands to move the powder. Remember this is an extremely difficult skill to learn, so don’t be too hard on yourself.  Good luck!

Warmly,

~Caren

Blog Update

Hi There!

I wanted to let you all know that I’m back.  This summer opened up many opportunities for me, and I haven’t had the time to update this blog as much as I wished.  But I did reply personally to all the questions sent to me during that time via email, so if you didn’t receive your answer please let me know.  Thanks so much for your patience and understanding.

Welcome back to Caren Reads!

Question of the Week: I recently bought my first home and started renovating it. I don’t know much about hauntings, ghosts or the paranormal, but it feels like my dog and I aren’t alone. Can you think of any experiments I could attempt in order to see if it’s a haunted house?

Yes!!! Please forgive my enthusiasm, but I loooove questions like this.  Since this is a public blog, I won’t get into any particulars of the your situation.

Often times, it is also quite possible for activity in your house to occur due to a non-paranormal cause.  Check to see if you have any animal visitors in your house.  Maybe the wiring is faulty or objects in your house have abnormally (not paranormal) high EMF readings? Don’t worry, there will more about that term shortly.  This is of course only a minimal list of non-paranormal causes.  Feel free to check away, and attempt to debunk anything things

That said, when someone moves into a house and renovates it, this can awaken something in the house which was dormant before.  If it wasn’t dormant before the renovation, then it’s still very likely to exacerbate any paranormal activity in the house.  This is understandable.  The house is changing – what would you do if you saw someone renovating your house?

I’m going to explain some of the basic tools in a paranormal investigators tool kit. But before I do, let me emphasize you should be respectful to the spirits you encounter.  Otherwise, you risk annoying them, causing more activity, and in some cases, harm to the living.  Most spirits do not mean any harm.

Before you start any paranormal investigation, make sure you are spiritually protected.  There are many different ways to do this. You can wear your religious symbol if you want.  Envision yourself surrounded by light, and state that you’re surrounded by the highest good, and are always protected.  It is also a good idea to recite a prayer of some sort if you’re feeling nervous, or have a bad gut feeling going into the investigation (of course you can recite a prayer anytime).  While it is important for you to feel connected to this prayer, it does not have to belong to your religion. Prayers have been used for hundreds of years, and pack quite a punch so to speak.  Use that momentum when setting your intentions of protection with the prayer.  Here is one that is well-known and is very strong.

St. Michael the Archangel Prayer

“Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.  Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.  May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host – by the Divine Power of God – cast into hell, Satan and all the evil spirits, who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.”

Here’s the toolkit:

  1. Journal of Occurrences - Okay, this might not be in a paranormal group’s tool kit, however in can be very handy for an individual.  Also, if you plan on inviting a paranormal group to investigate your house, they’ll find your journal very helpful.   Record any activity your consider ‘strange’ in this journal.  Be as detailed as possible (what the strange activity is, time, date, place etc.).  It might turn out to be just the water heater turning on, but by keeping this journal, it’ll help you figure out what is and what isn’t paranormal.  I also recommend for you to research the history of your house and land.  You can ask neighbors, your local historical society, local library or ask previous owners – just please don’t be pushy about getting information.  Sometimes when people are really enthusiastic about something, they can seem overwhelming.  Feel free to include this information in the journal.  It’s very helpful to have everything in one place. Then try to narrow down what you think might be haunted (house, object, land).
  2. EMF aka Electromagnetic Field.  In its natural form EMF is generated by living things and inanimate objects such as certain minerals, metals, lights, radios and wires.  Before you try this experiment, make sure you measure any object in the room that gives off EMF.  By doing so, you now have a baseline reading. In paranormal investigations, there is a theroy which states that spirits are mainly composed of energy, which in turn could be electrically based.  By trying to detect EMF, it could be possible to ‘see’ a spirit that would have remained unseen.  It’s thought that spirits need energy to manifest.  Spirits can draw on EMF to help with this. So, when a spirit manifests it can give off an electromagnetic field.  The stronger the EMF is (compared to the baseline), the more likely it is to be paranormal.  However, EMF in general can make people feel ‘off’, so if you’re in a room with a very high baseline of EMF, that could be the explanation for any experiences in that room.  If this is indeed the case, try to remove some of the objects, and see how the people feel in the room over time, now that the objects are gone.  You can buy an EMF reader from Amazon.com.
  3. EVP aka Electronic Voice Phenomena.  This is the well-known technique of recording and then hearing unexplainable voices during playback.  You can use either a digital recorder or a tape recorder.  The latter is harder to play with in order to fake an EVP. Make sure you conduct this in a quiet room, and know exactly where everyone in the house is at that particular time, pets included of course. There are several ways you can conduct an EVP session.  Before you start, I recommend you explain to the spirits what you’re doing, what the recorder is (what it does) and that it’s perfectly okay and safe to speak through.  Start with something simple, such as introducing yourself.  For example, “Hi my name is Caren.  What’s your name?”  It is very important now for you to give the spirits sufficient time to answer.  30 seconds works pretty well.  Then continue the conversation .  Remember… be respectful.  You still don’t know what is there, and you don’t want to annoy it in anyway.  Also, try not to ask “How did you die?” (or anything like that) as the first question.  The spirit might not know  they are in fact, dead.  That’s a scary concept. Spirit is unpredictable sometimes.  Instead, you could ask “What year is it?”.  If the answer is 1874, it’s a pretty good sign the spirit is unaware of the passage of time. Once you listen back to the recording and determine whether the spirit is/isn’t aware that it isn’t ‘living’, I suggest that in the beginning, you ask someone who specializes in spirit communication to help you convey the concept of death to a spirit. Very very generally, you want to break the news to them GENTLY. Just picture how you would want to be told you’re dead by someone from 2300.  Each case is different.   If you want, you can also leave the recorder by itself in a room for a period of time. Just explain to the spirits where you’re going, and that they are welcome to talk to the recorder.
  4. Photography/Video documentation.  By using a digital, poloraid, 35mm etc. or video camera it is possible to capture images of spirits.  They can appear in many different forms.  Some of them include a vapor, a haze, a vortex (usually a line of energy) and orbs.  If you do capture any forms of camera, double check to see whether there is a non-paranormal cause.  Dust? Bug? Fog? Thumb on lens?  Weather? Make sure to be thorough. Also check to see how experienced the camera man is. Human error can and does occur.
When conducting a paranormal investigation, persistance is the key.  The paranormal shows on tv are filmed for hours, and are then cut down to 1 hour.  Don’t be discouraged if at first you find this hard.  This is another time in which practice does help.  You learn as you go along which questions to ask, what to look for and what to discard.

I hope this helps.  If you have anymore questions about this or feel you’re in over your head, please feel free to contact me or your local paranormal group.

Warmly,

~Caren
